Varsity gets back on track with 51-42 win over Springfield

The varsity snapped their two-game losing streak with a hard fought 51-42 victory at Springfield High. The Pioneers (14-4, 11-2) received a much needed boost from sophomore Zach Lezanic (15 pts, 3 reb, 4 ast.) who led the team in points and assists.
Stoga also welcomed the return of senior co-captain Angus Mayock who finished with 10 points and 4 reb. in Embiid-like restricted minutes. Springfield used their height and athleticism to take a big early lead but Stoga showed their resiliency and heart (and a big spark 3-point fg by senior co-captain Charlie Martin (9 pts, 4 reb.) and climbed back to only trail by three 13-16 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, sophomore Milt Robinson (13 pts, 3 reb, 3 ast) found success on the weak-side of the Cougar defense and grabbed three offensive rebounds and converted them into six valuable points and the game was tied at halftime 24-24.
Lezanic exploded in the 3rd quarter hitting two 3-point fg and finishing the quarter with 10 points and Stoga’s team defense contributed to the Pioneer’s 41-33 lead after three. Conestoga’s defense kept the Cougars at bay in the fourth and finished with the nine point margin of victory.
