Varsity staves off late GV rally to remain undefeated in Central League

Another thrilling varsity boys basketball game at Conestoga High School Wednesday night as Stoga staved off a late Garnet Valley rally and secured a 63-55 victory.  The Stoga gym was rockin’ as the Pioneer Pit was packed and the stands full in part to support Unite for Her and in part to see if the boys could remain undefeated in the Central League.  The Pioneers were led by Senior captains Charlie Martin (18 pts, 10 reb), securing his first double-double of the season, as he opened the game with three 3-point buckets and ended the game making a perfect 5 straight free-throws; and Scott Shapiro (18 pts, 3 reb, 2 ast) who continues to come up big when the team needs it, scoring in every quarter and making 6 free-throws in a row as the game was coming to a close.
Sophomore Milton Robinson (14 pts, 2 reb) was strong driving to the hoop along with another consistent contribution from Zach Lezanic (7 points and 4 assists).  Junior Charlie Shappell was big on the glass securing 8 rebounds and adding 4 points.  Stoga helped themselves greatly by making 14 of 16 free-throw attempts including 12 of 14 in the 4th quarter alone.  The Pioneers outscored the Jaguars 24-22 in the thrilling 4th quarter.  Next up is a very good Penncrest team visiting Stoga Friday Night at 7 PM.  Come out and support the team and feel the excitement!
