17th win, on to playoffs

Conestoga put the finishing touches on a successful regular season with a 49-44 victory at Haverford Feb. 4, notching its 17th victory in 22 games.

The third-seeded Pioneers will host Marple Newtown Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. in the first round of the Central League playoffs with the winner advancing to Lower Merion on Feb. 7.

In its latest win, Conestoga built a 10-point halftime lead and stretched it to 41-27 before Haverford regrouped and battled back to narrow the deficit to 4 points in the final minute.

Sophomore Sunny Tummala led the way with 16 points, one more than junior teammate Cory Hogan. Senior Ben Robinson came through with 10 and point guard Rowan Miller added 8.

“Really happy with the way we moved the ball. We made the extra passes really well,” said coach Sean Forcine. “It’s time to really lock in and start to focus. We ready to work hard and take on our next opponent.”
