Big win with big loss

Conestoga is hoping its big 76-60 Central League win over Strath Haven Jan. 21 doesn`t come with a big loss.

For the first time this season the Pioneers put 5 players in double figures, but they are concerned that one of them, steady senior Sam Gibbs, might be sidelined for a while after sustaining a leg injury in the third quarter.

“Hopefully Sam’s going to be alright. We’ll be thinking about him tonight,” said coach Sean Forcine after his squad improved their record to 13-4 overall and 10-3 in the conference. “We hope to get him back on the court soon.”

Gibbs had 13 points, two rebounds and took a charge before his untimely exit. Sharp shooter Shane O`Brien led the way with 19 points, 4 rebounds and a blocked shot, while Ben Robinson and Cory Hogan added 14 each. Point guard Rowan Miller finished with 12.

Hogan controlled the boards with 7 rebounds, 4 assists and a blocked shot while Robinson set up his teammates with 7 assists. Miller pulled down 5 rebounds and distributed 3 assists.

“We shot the ball well and we found the open man, especially in the second half. So, really happy with our offensive execution, but I do think we need to be better defensively.”  said Forcine.

The Pioneers will host Ridley Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. to celebtrate SENIOR NIGHT.
