Shane O’Brien put on a shooting clinic Jan. 18 at the Conestoga gym as the 6-1 junior drained 6/10 shots from beyond the arc to lead the Pioneers to a 68-50 thrashing of Pennwood.
It was the 12th win in 16 games for Conestoga, which dominated the contest from the tip-off against the taller opponent.
O’Brien finished with 22 points,3 rebounds and a steal, but he had solid support from Ben Robinson (17 points, 6 assists, 2 rebounds, 2 steals and took a charge) and Rowan Miller (14 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal). Together that trio outscored Pennwood by themselves.
Junior Cory Hogan added 5 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal while Sam Gibbs had 3 points, 4 rebounds and a blocked shot for the winners.
“It was a great bounce-back game for us,” said coach Sean Forcine, relating to the Pioneers ‘one-point overtime loss the night before.”
“We controlled the boards, which I was concerned about because of their size. We had great energy and came out very aggressive on defense. That helped us get a nice lead early.”
Conestoga will return to action Jan. 21, hosting Strath Haven at 7 p.m.
