League-Opener Win at Ridley

Conestoga High School’s varsity boys basketball team began their quest for a Central League championship with a decisive 67-49 victory at Ridley Dec. 10.

The scored was tied at 9 before the Pioneers took control and led the rest of the way in raising their overall record to 3-1.

Junior point guard Rowan Miller was brilliant again, scoring 20 points with 5 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. But he had support from plenty of teammates. Junior sharp-shooter  Shane O’Brien contributed 13 points and 4 rebounds while Luke Hunter came off the bench to net 11 points and snare 6 rebounds.

Cory Hogan finished with 8 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists while Sam Gibbs continued his strong play with 6 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Sunny Tummala had 6 points, 4 rebounds and an assist.

“All league wins are tough especially on the road,” said coach Sean Forcine.

“I was pleased with our physicality, winning the rebounding battle (34-13).

“Sam and Rowan did a great job of handling the basketball and finding their open reads.

Everyone contributed to this win from the starters to the bench.”

The Pioneers will be back in action Dec. 12 at defending Central League champion Lower Merion.
