Refusing to lose

Trailing by 8 points in the third quarter, Conestoga shifted into high gear to overtake Cheltenham and claim a 52-44 victory in the third round of the District 1 6A playoffs Feb. 20.

Coach Sean Forcine wasn’t surprised by what he saw. “It’s been the same theme all season. Our poise under pressure and resilient attitude has helped us close out these type of games.”

“We took care of the ball, boxed out and made foul shots. Those are the things that make a difference.”

It wasn’t the first time that the Pioneers simply refused to lose in a crucial matchup.

Point guard Rowan Miller was a difference-maker again in directing the offense. He also poured in 18 points and pulled down 6 rebounds.

Ben Robinson contributed 13 points and 4 rebounds, but his composure at the foul line was a key factor in the victory. Cory Hogan battled the bigger and quicker opponent to finish with 11 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.

Sharp-shooter Shane O’Brien drew a lot of attention from the defense, but he came through with 7 points, 5 rebounds and a steal.

The team’s mettle is sure to be tested again when it travels to face a familiar nemesis next. The Pioneers will be looking to avenge an early-season loss when they visit Coatesville Feb. 25th.
