A Central League showdown is next for Conestoga after the Pioneers disposed of Radnor, 51-34, Jan. 7 to push their record to 10-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference.
Penncrest brings its unbeaten team to challenge coach Sean Forcine’s forces Jan. 9 with first place awaiting the winner.
“It’s going to be a battle, but we’ll be prepared,” Forcine said following his team’s 10th win of the season.
Radnor did its best to slow down the Pioneers’ attack with a deliberate style of play that kept the game within reach until late in the third quarter when Sam Gibbs provided a cushion for the Pioneers with his three-point shooting.
Gibbs finished with 15 points and 2 steals while Cory Hogan played a strong all-around game with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Rowan Miller, Ben Robinson, Luke Hunter and Sunny Tummala added 5 points apiece.
Miller also had 9 assists, 6 rebounds, a blocked shot. Gibbs, Robinson and Tummala took charges while Luke Hunter and Angelo Bertolotti grabbed 4 rebounds. Although in foul trouble, Shane O’Brien contributed 3 points, 2 rebounds and a block.
“Any league win is a good win,” added Forcine. “We really turned up the intensity on defense in the second half. Rowan did a tremendous job of finding open guys and Sam hit some big shots. Cory and Luke played great on the inside against their zone. I’m verry happy with our effort.”
