There was plenty for the Conestoga High School boys basketball team to be thankful for after they rolled to a championship in the Holy Ghost Prep holiday tournament over the weekend.
A balanced scoring attack sparked the Pioneers, who opened their 2024-25 campaign with victories over Whitehall (57-49) and Neshaminy (64-40) to claim the crown.
Tournament MVP Rowan Miller led the point parade with major contributions from teammates Sam Gibbs, Cory Hogan and Shane O`Brien.
Miller finished the two-day event with 28 points, 17 assists, 12 rebounds and 6 steals in two dominant victories. Gibbs, who joined Miller on the all-tournament team, had 21 points and took a charge.
Hogan took care of things inside with 28 points and 8 rebounds. O`Brien powered the Pioneers with his outside shooting, finishing with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Tummala was also effective by scoring 11 points and taking a charge.
Head coach Sean Forcine was pleased with what he observed.
“We came out aggressive on defense, won the rebounding battle and the loose ball battle in each game. When those things go in our favor we tend to come out on top.
“I am really happy with our unselfishness with a lot of assists and sharing the ball. When we play team basketball, rebound and defend, there are good things ahead. We have a lot more of getting better to do, but we must stay humble and hungry.”
Conestoga (2-0) will be back at it on Saturday 12/7/24 against Coatesville High School at Marple Newtown High School at 7pm.
