It was the home opener for the Conestoga High School varsity boys basketball team and it was the welcome-back game for senior guard Ben Robinson as the Pioneers put a 58-40 whipping on Central League rival Upper Darby Dec. 17.
The victory pushed Stoga to a 5-1 record, including 3-0 in league play.
Senior Sam Gibbs led a balanced attack with 15 points his junior teammates followed. Cory Hogan finished with 12 points, a team-leading 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Rowan Miller stuffed the boxscore again with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and a steal.
Other contributers were Shane O`Brien with 9 points, Sunny Tummala with 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals and Luke Hunter with 5 rebounds and 4 points.
The senior Robinson, a veteran guard, saw limited action in his first game since returning from a knee injury.
“We’re happy that we got a league win, but we’re just not satisfied with our performance,” said coach Sean Forcine.
“It was a little sloppy and our energy level was not quite the standard we want. But we`ll get back to work because Thursday’s game at Garnet Valley is going to be a battle. It`s not an easy place to play, but we will be prepared.”
