Stoga falls to Penncrest

Penncrest took advantage of its size and deliberate style of offense to capture the battle of Central League unbeatens, 61-52, Jan. 9 on Conestoga’s home court.

It was a bad time for the Pioneers to struggle with a poor shooting night.

“Give Penncrest credit,” said Conestoga coach Sean Forcine. “They played well in executing their four-corner offense.

“We just couldn’t put the ball in the basket and that helped them build a double-digit lead.”

The Pioneers chased the visitors most of the night but couldn’t catch them. They narrowed the gap to 48-41 in the final period, but could get no closer.

Conestoga dropped to 10-2 overall, 6-1 in the Central League.

Shane O`Brien led Conestoga with 15 points and 2 steals. Rowen Miller was the only other Pioneers in double figures with 11 but he added 7 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

Cory Hogan was next in line with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Sam Gibbs finished with 8 points and 3 rebounds.

“Were not going to let one loss affect us.” said Forcine. “We’ll get back to work and be prepared for Springfield on Saturday.” Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. at Springfield.
