Another strong performance on the road propelled the Conestoga High School boys basketball team into first place in the powerful Central League.
With a continued balanced offensive attack and defensive intensity, the Pioneers brought down Garnet Valley, 47-39, on Dec. 19 to climb atop the standings.
Juniors Rowan Miller, Shane O`Brien and Cory Hogan led the point parade with 14, 11 and 8 respectively. Sophomore Sunny Tummala added 7 while Sam Gibbs (5) and Ben Robinson (2) made their contributions. Gibbs had 2 steals while O`Brien, Hogan and Robinson had 2 assists each. Miller was the rebound leader with 7 followed by Gibbs (6) and Hogan (4).
“Our goal is to be the best we can possibly be by the end of the year.” said Coach Forcine.
“I’m excited about our unselfishness, our ability to close out games and really locked down defensively in the second half. We matched their physicality. It’s something that we’ve always had trouble with with Garnet.
“To win the rebounding battle, was really special down here. I’m happy we hit foul shots down the stretch and we are bonding as a team. We don’t really care who scores as long as we get the best shot.”
Next game is set for 5:30 pm on Dec. 27th at Lampeter-Strasburg.
