JV drops first game of 2018 to Garnet Valley 49-41

The JV Pioneers suffered another tough loss in their first game back from winter break.  A quiet crowd (except for faithful cheerleader Dan Mayock) and lackluster teamwork added to the low energy on the court. Garnet Valley had a quick, cohesive squad and took early advantage.
The first half saw a few moments of brilliance as DiMarino started a short run at the end of the first quarter. And DeShetler and Mayock came up strong under the boards. But, alas, only five Stoga shots went in and the half ended with the Pioneers down 20-9.
The team came out from the locker room slightly more energized as Piccone started the half with a lanky block. Barczak got hot with his three-pointers, while Emory hit a three, grabbed a rebound, and drove in for a foul in sweet succession. Smith was summonsed late in the game to help add some muscle under the boards.  Unfortunately, 28 minutes just wasn’t enough time to recover from Garnet Valley’s early lead.
