Stoga Varsity Drops First Game of Season to Haverford

Boys JV Tops Haverford 45-26

By Brendan Fahey, Conestoga Class of 2021

The Conestoga Boys’ Varsity basketball team traveled to Haverford High for an evening tip-off against the Fords in a highly anticipated Central League matchup.

Haverford took an early advantage, leading 24-14 midway through the second quarter.  However, Stoga stormed back. Through timely offensive rebounds and three pointers, the Pioneers cut the Fords’ lead to just one and went into the halftime buzzer with the score 24 – 23.

In the second half, Haverford played tight man defense which helped them increase their lead.  But, the Pioneers fought hard with good defense, strong press, and a string of three pointers to keep them within striking distance.  Conestoga worked hard but was unable to make up the deficit, and fell to Haverford 55-43.  They are now 2-1 on the season and face Lower Merion on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 7:00 PM at home.  Roll ‘Neers!

By John Demming

The Conestoga boys JV squad defeated Haverford High on the Fords’ home court 45-26 to improve to 2-0 in a Thursday evening contest.

The game began with an intense defensive performance by both teams with just 10 points scored combined.  However, Stoga found its way by executing on offense and on defense, in the paint, and at the penalty stripe, to expose the Fords’ weaknesses and pulled away with a 45-26 victory.

Next up:  Lower Merion at home at 5:00 PM.
