Varsity loses heartbreaker to Upper Darby 60-57

On the final game before the holiday break, Stoga came out strong on Upper Darby’s home court paced by Zach’s drives to the basket and Shane’s 3 pt. shooting and led 21 -17 after one. Even the UD student section appreciated the difficulty of some Zach’s moves! The second quarter was a completely different story as both teams found scoring a challenge. Midway through the period Wesley finally got Stoga back into the scoring column on a baseline jumper and the team went into the half up 28-23.
The third quarter was all Stoga as Zach and Shane were on fire from 3 pt. range leading to a commanding 47-35 lead after three. Shane had 5 three’s for the game. Upper Darby turned up the heat in the fourth quarter with an aggressive full court press leading to many turnovers that resulted in Upper Darby baskets. Stoga was outscored 25 to 10 in the final period. Despite holding onto a 57-54 lead with 1:45 left, some missed opportunities and clutch foul shooting by the Royals helped them pull out a thrilling victory in the final seconds 60-57.
The Varsity will play a couple of games in the Boyertown tournament over the holiday to stay sharp for the new year.
