Ridley stuns Varsity 45-43 giving Stoga their first Central League loss

The Ridley Green Raiders stunned the Conestoga Boys varsity team 45-43 at Ridley High Tuesday afternoon.  It was Stoga’s first defeat in the Central League this season.  The Pioneers started out cold and trailed the 1st quarter by a score of 5-8.  In the second quarter Stoga heated up as senior Charlie Martin (15 pts, 3 reb) and Soph Zach Lezanic (14 pts, 5 reb) scored 12 of the teams 17 points and took a 2 point lead into halftime.

Stoga built an 8 point lead in the 3rd quarter but Ridley fought their way back and trailed by four 33-29 after three.  In the 4th qtr Conestoga went cold again this time from the free throw line.  Nearly perfect the last two games, Stoga was just 1 for 5 from the charity stripe in the 4th qtr and just 4 for 10 for the game.  Lezanic kept it close scoring 7 points in the last qtr but it wasn’t enough.  Scott Lambert, Charlie Schappell, Milt Robinson and Michael Erickson combined for 17 rebounds in the loss.
Next up is a tough Lower Merion team looking for revenge from an earlier season loss to Conestoga.  That game is this Friday Night at Conestoga High.  Go Stoga!
