Lopsided Victory for Conestoga in Round 1 of D1 PIAA Home Game

This time there would be no three-point magic in the final seconds to propel Neshaminy to a gut-wrenching victory.  This time Conestoga made sure of that with an inspired performance in the playoffs that overwhelmed the visitors, 53-19. The lopsided victory avenged a painful regular-season loss that took place in the final second.

Senior Brendan Styer and sophomore Rowan Miller combined to net 29 points, outscoring Neshaminy by themselves. Styer had 16 points to go with 3 steals, 2 assists and two rebounds. Miller followed with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks.

There was plenty of other heroes for the Pioneers, who improved their record to 15-8. Sophomore Cory Hogan came through with seven points and 2 steals while Wes Fryberger had 5 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Junior Ben Robinson grabbed an amazing 12 rebounds and added 3 assists. Sam Gibbs and Landon Ross came off the bench to score four points each while Sean Mackey had 2 points and 2 rebounds.

“I’d be lying if I said  we didn’t have revenge on our minds,” said coach Sean Forcine. “We prepared tremendously for this moment. Nobody tried to do too much. It was a total team effort and a complete dismantling by us. I’m really proud of our guys.”

It was an electric crowd at the PIT. In the final minutes, the celebrating fans began chanting for Scott LeComte, who answered their “We Want Scott” chants by hitting a smooth floater.

Now the Pioneers turn their attention to Central League regular-season champion Lower Merion, which will host Stoga Tuesday.

“They are a tremendous team and they’ve gotten us twice,” said Forcine, “We will prepare and battle them. as best we can. We are not scared and we have confidence that we can be on the winning side this time.”
