Stoga Tops Marple Newtown at Home

The Conestoga Boys Varsity and JV Basketball Teams continued their winning ways into 2022 with victories over Marple Newtown on the Pioneers home court. The JV started the evening with strong defense and intensity, with Tommy Costigan providing some power in the lane and taking a charge to change the momentum into Conestoga’s way. Niru Krishnan had some kisses off the glass while Rowan Hornaday made solid crosscourt passes, including an open look to Landon Ross. Connor Demming hit two critical three pointers to help keep the lead and the Pioneers closed out Marple with a 43-30 victory.

The Varsity faced a tough contest with a Marple team eager to prove itself. The Pioneers started off strong, rolling to a 10 point lead in the first quarter led by Ryan Mackey, Mike Walz, and Matt Malarkey. But Marple settled in and its intense defense created some turnovers to keep them in the game. The Pioneers were down 18-19 at the half. The second half saw a Pioneer team ready to dominate, with Mike Walz hitting a key three pointer in the third. Brendan Styer complemented Mackey at the point, and the team ran strong offensive sets, and excellent D from Collin Todd to pull away with a 38-35 victory.
