Strong defense and foul shooting lead Varsity to tough road win over Radnor

Stoga traveled across town to meet up with neighboring Radnor in a key Central League tilt on Friday night. The fans got their money’s worth after Stoga held off a late run run by Radnor to post a 61-56 victory.
It was a tight first quarter with Stoga having trouble getting shots to fall but some late steals leading to transition baskets left them down by 12-13 after one. Stoga really turned up the pressure late in the 2nd quarter as Radnor had some key players in foul trouble. Using the bonus to our advantage we hit on 7 out of 8 free throws to close out the half with a 30-23 advantage.
Stoga came out after the half energized, possibly spurred on by Jacob Bierstaker’s haltime halfcourt shootout swish, that got the impressive Conestoga student section all fired up! Using a half court press, Milton Robinson to advantage of Radnor turnovers and missed shots to knock down 10 pts. in the quarter pulling the Pioneers ahead by 13.
Behind Zach Lezanic (23 pts.) and Shane Scott (13 pts.) Stoga stretched their lead to 14 points. Wes Brace also contributed 6 pts/4 blocks/2 steals in an all-around effort. But Radnor would not quietly go away and forcing their on turnovers and some timely 3 pt shooting narrowed the gap to 6 points. Knocking down late game foul shots helped Stoga hold on for the win.
