Varsity clinches Central League playoff spot with victory over Upper Darby 65-48

Conestoga Varsity Boys showed resilience yet again on the road, coming from behind to defeat the Upper Darby Royals by a score of 65-48.  Senior co-captain Charlie Martin (18 pts, 7 Reb, 4 Ast) came out on fire hitting 3 three-point field goals to start the first quarter and Stoga led 15-14 after one.  In the second quarter Upper Darby’s size and athleticism controlled the boards and created turnovers and Stoga trailed 26-30 at the half.

Second half was a gutty run by the starting five as they played the entire third quarter and most of the fourth to earn the victory.   Senior co-captain Angus Mayock (17 pts, 2 Reb, 2 Ast), in just his second game back from being sidelined four weeks with  an ankle injury, along with senior co-captain Scott Shapiro (8 Pts, 4 Ast), Martin and sophmore Zach Lezanic (9 Pts, 4 Reb, 3 Ast) combined for 34 of the Pioneers 39 second half points.  For the game, Stoga hit 9 three-point field goals, each one electrifying the team.  Conestoga improved to 15-4 and 12-2 in the Central League and clinched a Central League playoff spot.
