Varsity makes strong comeback behind raucous Pit to capture home opener

A nice opening win for the Conestoga Boys Basketball Team Friday night as the Pioneer Pit came out in full force.  It wasn’t the prettiest, as the game opened with tentative shooting and first game jitters.

Despite that, Coach Troy continued to encourage the boys and maintained his attack attitude with the team for the 32 minutes.  With Stoga down 4 with the clock winding down, Charlie Martin hit a 3 to cut the lead to 1 going into half time.  The second half started with Stoga relaxing and moving the ball much better and attacking when the opportunity presented itself.  They built a 12 point lead and hung on to win d 54- 47 despite a reversion back to some tentative play and less then intelligent fouling  in the 4th quarter.

Stoga was led by Angus Mayock with 14 points then Charlie Martin and Zach Lezanic each had 11 apiece.  Scottie Shapiro chipped in with 9 and the Pioneers had 4 others with 2 points  (Charlie Shappell, Peyton Jones, Scott Lambert, Milt Robinson).

The next game is Tuesday at Radnor at 7pm.
